English Version

Gamma-Cyclodextrin Platforms for Ultralong Organic Phosphorescent Materials

Research Background

Organic phosphorescent materials are attracting attention for optical displays, sensing, and information-security technologies. However, achieving long emission lifetimes together with environmental stability remains challenging.

Research Highlight

Covalent-supramolecular multivalent synergy coupling enables ultralong and robust sustainable organic phosphorescence

  • Constructed a supramolecular network based on cellulose and gamma-cyclodextrin.
  • Immobilized phosphorescent chromophores within the network.
  • Reduced non-radiative energy loss and stabilized excited states.
  • Achieved phosphorescence lifetimes exceeding four seconds and afterglow emission lasting more than one minute.
  • Demonstrated reversible responses to humidity and pH.
  • Enabled multicolor and time-resolved phosphorescence.
  • Allowed processing into diverse architectures and device formats.

Overall Significance

This work demonstrates how gamma-cyclodextrin can serve as a platform for durable and sustainable photonic materials. The approach may contribute to future technologies in optical encryption, sensing devices, wearable photonics, and smart materials.
